Chaldean numerology calculator

Type your name the way you use it. The calculator gives each letter its Chaldean value from 1 to 8, adds them up to a compound number, reads that compound number in the Cheiro tradition and reduces it to your single-digit name number, the Naamank. Every word and every letter is shown, so you can follow each step.

What Chaldean numerology is

Chaldean numerology reads a name through numbers. It is named after the Chaldeans of ancient Babylon and is usually described as the older of the two main letter systems. Each letter is given a value from 1 to 8 by its sound, not by its place in the alphabet, and no letter is given 9. The values of a name are added up to a compound number, and the compound number is reduced to a single digit: the name number, or Naamank (नामांक).

What most people call Chaldean numerology today comes through Cheiro, the pen name of William John Warner (1866 to 1936), an Irish palmist and astrologer. His book Cheiro’s Book of Numbers made the Chaldean letter values widely known, along with two habits this calculator follows: read the name a person is known by, and read the compound number before reducing it. In India the Chaldean name number is the one most numerologists use, and it is read alongside your Mulank (Moolank) and Bhagyank.

How the Chaldean numerology calculator works

  1. Clean the name. Spaces, dots and titles such as Mr, Mrs, Dr, Shri and Smt are left out. Only the English letters A to Z count, so type the spelling you actually use.
  2. Give each letter its value. The Chaldean chart below gives every letter a value from 1 to 8.
  3. Add each word. Each word gets its own total. Many numerologists also look at the first name on its own, as it is the name people call you by most.
  4. Add the whole name. The word totals added together give the compound number.
  5. Read the compound number. From 10 to 52 the tradition gives the compound number a reading of its own. Above 52 only the single digit is read.
  6. Reduce to one digit. Add the digits of the compound number until one digit from 1 to 9 is left. This is your Chaldean name number. Unlike the Western method, 11 and 22 are reduced too.

Worked example: Priya Sharma

Name Priya Sharma (an example name, not a real person).

WordChaldean letter valuesTotal
PRIYAP 8 + R 2 + I 1 + Y 1 + A 113
SHARMAS 3 + H 5 + A 1 + R 2 + M 4 + A 116
Full name13 + 1629 → 11 → 2
  • Compound number 29: Uncertain ground. The tradition reads this as a number that asks for care in relationships and with people who are not open with you. Practical note: say clearly what you expect, and give trust as it is earned.
  • Chaldean name number 2 (Moon, the peacemaker): Number 2 people read moods well and do their best work in partnership. Harmony around them matters a lot.
  • Each word on its own: Priya 13 → 4 (Rahu), Sharma 16 → 7 (Ketu).
  • For comparison: the Pythagorean chart gives the same name Expression number 3.

Computed by the same engine as the calculator above.

Priya Sharma adds up to 29. The digits of 29 give 11, and the digits of 11 give 2, so the name number is 2, the number of the Moon. In the Western method 11 would be kept as a master number; the Chaldean method reduces it. The compound number 29 is one the tradition reads as asking for care, which is something to handle thoughtfully, not something that has to happen.

The values follow the sound of a letter rather than alphabet order, which is why F and P share 8 while O and Z share 7. The numerology alphabet chart has a tool that gives the number of every letter of a name in both systems, and the Chaldean numerology chart guide covers the ruling planet of each letter and the traits linked with each first letter.

Chaldean compound numbers 10 to 52

The compound number is the letter total of your name before it is reduced. In the Cheiro tradition every total from 10 to 52 has a reading of its own, and from 33 on most totals are read like a lower number (33 like 24, 52 like 43). Where a number asks for care, read it as something to handle thoughtfully, not as something that has to happen. The single-digit name number stays the main result. The readings below are written in our own words.

Chaldean compound numbers 10 to 52 in the Cheiro tradition. Above 52 the single digit is read.

Tips for typing your name

  • Initials count as one letter each. “R K Sharma” and “Rajesh Kumar Sharma” give different numbers, so check the form you sign with.
  • Spelling changes the number. “Lakshmi” is 1 and “Laxmi” is 5 by the Chaldean chart. Use the English spelling on your documents or business card.
  • A changed name is a new name. After marriage, or with a short name you use at work, check both the old and the new version.
  • A number that does not suit you is not a reason to change your name on its own. The name correction calculator shows small spelling changes, and many people talk it over with Namieta before using a new spelling on documents.

Chaldean numerology calculator questions

What does a Chaldean numerology calculator show?

It gives each letter of your name its Chaldean value from 1 to 8, adds the values up to a compound number and reduces that to one digit from 1 to 9, your name number or Naamank. This calculator also reads the compound number from 10 to 52 in the Cheiro tradition and shows each word of your name on its own.

Why does no letter have the value 9?

In the Chaldean tradition 9 is treated as a sacred number that stands apart, so no letter is given 9. Your name can still add up to 9, or to a total such as 18 or 27 that reduces to 9.

What is a compound number?

It is the letter total of your name before it is reduced to one digit. Priya Sharma adds up to 29, which is the compound number, and then to 2. The tradition gives a reading for every total from 10 to 52; above 52 only the single digit is read.

Which name should I type?

The name you use every day: the one you sign with and are called by, because the Chaldean tradition reads the name you are known by. If your name on documents is spelt differently, or you changed it after marriage, check each version.

How is this different from the name numerology calculator?

Both use the same Chaldean letter values and give the same name number. This calculator is Chaldean only and shows more of the Chaldean working: each letter, each word, the compound reading and which values your letters carry. The name numerology calculator adds the Western Expression, Soul Urge and Personality numbers and checks the name against your date of birth.

Is Chaldean numerology more accurate than Pythagorean?

Neither system can be proven more accurate. They give letters different values and answer slightly different questions. Most Indian numerologists use the Chaldean chart for the name number and for name correction, which is why this site leads with it.
