Where to start
Start with the main door, since the facing of a home is read from it and many other placements follow from there. Then go to the room that bothers you most: the bedroom if sleep is poor, the kitchen if it sits in an awkward corner, the bathroom if it falls in the north-east. If you are not sure where to begin, take the house Vastu score first: it lists the rooms to look at first and links you to these guides.
Frequently asked questions
My kitchen is in the wrong direction. Do I have to rebuild?
Usually not. The kitchen guide gives the preferred direction and then what can be adjusted inside the room, such as where the stove sits and which way you face while cooking.
Does bedroom Vastu work in a rented flat?
Yes. Much of it is about how you use the room: the bed position, the direction of your head, mirrors and electronics. These can be changed in any home without touching a wall.
How do I know which direction a room is in?
Take a compass reading from the centre of the home and note the zone each room falls in. The direction of a room is where it lies from the centre, not the way its window faces.
Is a pooja corner enough in a small flat?
Yes. The pooja room guide covers a corner or shelf for small homes, with the direction and height commonly suggested for it.
