Where to start
If you know the time and place of birth, start with the Janam Kundli: it gives the lagna, the houses and the running dasha in one go, and the other chart tools then look at one part of it more closely. Without a birth time, the rashi, nakshatra, dasha and sade sati calculators still work from the date. For marriage, use Kundli matching by date of birth when both birth details are known, and Kundli milan by name only when they are not. The love, friendship and FLAMES calculators are light fun, not a match reading.
Frequently asked questions
Which is more accurate: Kundli matching by date of birth or by name?
Matching by date of birth. It uses the Moon's actual nakshatra at birth for both people. Matching by name assumes each name was chosen from the birth nakshatra, so it is an approximation at best.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
The rashi, nakshatra, dasha and sade sati calculators still give a result from the date and tell you when the Moon changed sign that day. The lagna, the houses, the Navamsa and the Manglik check from the lagna need the time, so treat them as approximate without it.
How many gunas should match for marriage?
Traditionally 18 out of 36 is the minimum: 18 to 24 is average, 25 to 32 good and 33 to 36 excellent. Most astrologers also look at Nadi and Bhakoot dosha, Manglik dosha and the rest of both charts, not only the total.
Which ayanamsa and house system are used?
The Lahiri ayanamsa, which most Indian panchangs follow, and whole-sign houses counted from the lagna, as in the North Indian chart.
