Times are IST, computed from the Sun and Moon’s positions (astronomy-engine, Lahiri). The day is named by the tithi at sunrise in Nagpur. Ekadashi, Purnima and Amavasya are in bold; fast days can follow other rules, so check the vrat date for your tradition.

Questions about tithi
Aaj kaun si tithi hai?
The box at the top shows the tithi running at sunrise today, the time it ends in IST and the tithi that follows. It updates itself each day.
What is a tithi?
A lunar day: the time the Moon takes to move 12° ahead of the Sun. There are 30 in a lunar month, 15 in the bright half (shukla paksha) and 15 in the dark half (krishna paksha). A tithi lasts about 19 to 27 hours, so it rarely matches a calendar day.
Why does the tithi change in the middle of the day?
Because a tithi follows the Moon, not the clock. Panchangs name each day by the tithi running at sunrise (udaya tithi), and give the time it ends.
What is a kshaya or vriddhi tithi?
When a tithi begins after one sunrise and ends before the next, no sunrise falls in it and it is skipped in the calendar (kshaya). When a tithi spans two sunrises, it is counted on both days (vriddhi).
Is the tithi the same all over India?
Its start and end times are the same moment everywhere, so the IST times hold for all of India. The tithi at sunrise can rarely differ between east and west when a tithi ends close to sunrise.
