Times are IST and hold for all of India. The day is the one at whose sunrise the tithi is running in Nagpur. Computed from the Sun and Moon’s positions (sidereal, Lahiri); months are amanta, named from the Sun’s sign at the new moon.
What people do on Purnima
- A fast (Purnima vrat), broken after seeing the Moon in the evening.
- Satyanarayan katha and puja at home.
- A bath in a holy river and charity in the morning.
- Offering water (arghya) to the Moon at moonrise.

Questions about Purnima
Purnima kab hai?
The table shows when the next Purnima tithi begins and ends in IST, and the day it is running at sunrise. The current or next one is highlighted.
Why do two dates appear for one Purnima?
A tithi does not follow the clock: it can begin in the afternoon of one day and end the next day. Panchangs usually name the day by the tithi running at sunrise, while some vrats and festivals follow the tithi in the evening or at night.
Is the time the same everywhere in India?
Yes. A tithi begins and ends at the same moment everywhere, so the IST times hold for all of India. Only the day at sunrise can differ, rarely, when the tithi begins very close to sunrise.
What is an adhik month?
An extra lunar month added about every three years, in which the Sun does not move into a new sign. The Purnima in it is called Adhik, for example Adhik Jyeshtha Purnima.
Which Purnimas are special?
Many are festivals in their own right: Guru Purnima in Ashadha, Raksha Bandhan on Shravana Purnima, Sharad Purnima in Ashwin, Kartik Purnima (Dev Deepawali), Holi on Phalguna Purnima and Buddha Purnima in Vaishakha.
