Each dasha lord has its own page in the navagraha section, with its beej mantra, gemstone and the remedies commonly suggested.
The dasha tells you whose period you are in; the birth chart tells you what that planet promises. A Jupiter mahadasha, for example, brings Jupiter’s themes of learning, guidance and growth into focus, but how they play out depends on the house Jupiter rules and occupies in your Kundli, and on the transits of the time. The change from one mahadasha to the next is often felt as a change of chapter.
To find your birth nakshatra on its own, use the nakshatra calculator. For what the planets are doing now, see planet positions today.
A 120-year cycle of planetary periods used in Indian astrology. Ketu rules 7 years, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17, always in that order. Where you start in the cycle depends on the Moon’s nakshatra at birth.
The mahadasha is the main period. Each mahadasha is split into nine antardashas (sub-periods), starting with its own planet, and each antardasha into nine pratyantardashas. They are written as, for example, Jupiter–Ketu: Ketu antardasha in the Jupiter mahadasha.
Yes, for exact dates. The Moon crosses a whole nakshatra in about a day, so the balance at birth, and every date after it, moves with the time. Without a time the calculator uses 12:00 and shows how much the answer could change on that day.
Three things change the dates: the birth time, the ayanamsa (this calculator uses Lahiri) and the length of a dasha year. This calculator uses 365.25 days; some astrologers use a 360-day year, which moves the later periods earlier.
The dasha only tells you which planet’s period you are in. What it brings depends on where that planet sits in your birth chart, its strength and the transits, so the same mahadasha can feel very different for two people. That is what a Kundli reading looks at.
