How these astrology tools work
- Real positions, not tables. The Sun, Moon and planets are computed for the exact moment with the astronomy-engine library. Tests check them against published dates such as Makar Sankranti and Jupiter’s and Saturn’s sign changes.
- Indian (sidereal) zodiac. Rashi, nakshatra, Kundli matching and the rashifal use the Lahiri ayanamsa. Only the zodiac sign calculator and the English horoscope use the Western (tropical) zodiac.
- Moon sign first. Vedic astrology reads mainly from the Moon: its sign is your rashi, its nakshatra gives the naam akshar and the Kundli matching points.
- Time of birth matters. The Moon changes nakshatra about once a day, so without a time the tools check the whole day and say when the answer could change.
- Private. The calculations run in your browser, and nothing you enter is stored on this website.

Questions about the astrology tools
Is Vedic astrology by date of birth free here?
Yes. Every calculator on this page is free and needs no sign-up. Results are worked out in your browser and are not stored on this website. A personal reading with Namieta is a separate consultation, booked on WhatsApp.
What do I need: date, time or place of birth?
The date alone gives your sun sign and often your rashi. The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, so the time of birth decides your nakshatra and pada, and sometimes your rashi. If you do not know the time, the rashi calculator checks the whole day and tells you whether the answer changes. A full Kundli also needs the place of birth.
Why is my rashi different from my zodiac sign?
Your zodiac sign in Western astrology is the sign of the Sun on the tropical zodiac. Your rashi in Indian astrology is the sign of the Moon on the sidereal zodiac, which today sits about 24 degrees behind the tropical one. They answer different questions, so most people have two different signs.
How are the positions calculated?
The Sun, Moon and planets come from the astronomy-engine library, a published astronomical model. Indian (sidereal) positions use the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard of the Indian government calendar, and Rahu is the mean lunar node. Sunrise and sunset for choghadiya and Rahu kaal are checked against the NOAA solar calculator.
Which calculator should I use for marriage matching?
If you know both dates of birth, use Kundli matching by date of birth: it finds each person’s Moon nakshatra and scores the 8 kootas out of 36. If you only know the names, Kundli milan by name uses the first syllable of each name instead.
Can a calculator replace a consultation?
No. A calculator gives one part of the chart exactly. A consultation looks at your whole chart, the running dasha and the transits together with the question you bring. That is what Namieta does in a reading.
