Patterns like this one form for a few days or weeks at a time, when the slow planets and the nodes line up and the faster planets pass through the same half of the zodiac.
Kaal Sarp is a later idea that many classical texts do not mention, and astrologers give it very different weight. Its effect, where it is used, depends on the houses involved, the planets’ strength and the running dasha. See your whole chart in the Janam Kundli, and check the Manglik dosha too if you are matching for marriage. Rahu and Ketu also appear in the combinations commonly cited for pitra dosh.
A chart pattern in which all seven planets, from the Sun to Saturn, lie on one side of the axis between Rahu and Ketu, as if held between the head and tail of a serpent. When one planet is on the other side, it is often called partial.
Many classical texts do not mention it, and astrologers weigh it very differently. Where it is used, its effect is judged together with the rest of the chart and the running dasha, not on its own.
They are named from Rahu’s house counted from the lagna: Anant (1st), Kulik (2nd), Vasuki (3rd), Shankhpal (4th), Padma (5th), Mahapadma (6th), Takshak (7th), Karkotak (8th), Shankhachud (9th), Ghatak (10th), Vishdhar (11th) and Sheshnag (12th).
Not for the check itself, which uses the planets’ positions; they change slowly enough that the date decides it on most days. The type needs the lagna, so it needs the time and place of birth.
Families often perform a Kaal Sarp puja, but whether anything is needed depends on the whole chart. Namieta reads the chart and the dasha before suggesting any remedy.
