How your Lal Kitab Kundli is made
- Make the birth chart. The lagna and the nine grahas are placed exactly as in the Janam Kundli: planets from the astronomy-engine library, the Lahiri ayanamsa, the mean node for Rahu and Ketu, and whole-sign houses from the lagna.
- Fix the signs of the houses. Lal Kitab gives the 1st house Mesha, the 2nd Vrishabha and so on to Meena in the 12th, whatever your lagna. The planets keep their houses, so the chart is read by house alone.
- Check each planet’s house. Is it the planet’s pakka ghar (permanent house)? Is it the house where the planet is exalted or debilitated? These follow the fixed signs: the Sun is exalted in the 1st house (Mesha) and debilitated in the 7th (Tula).
- Note the empty houses. An empty house (khali ghar) is read through the planet whose pakka ghar it is.

Frequently asked questions
How is a Lal Kitab Kundli different from a normal Kundli?
The planets sit in the same houses, counted from the lagna. Lal Kitab then gives every house a fixed sign (Mesha in the 1st, Vrishabha in the 2nd and so on) and reads each planet by its house alone, not by the sign it is in.
What is pakka ghar in Lal Kitab?
The permanent house of a planet: the Sun's is the 1st, the Moon's the 4th, Mars's the 3rd and 8th, Mercury's and Venus's the 7th, Saturn's the 8th and 10th, Rahu's the 12th and Ketu's the 6th; Jupiter's are the 2nd, 5th, 9th, 11th and 12th. Books differ on a few of these, such as the 11th, which some give to Saturn.
Do I need my birth time?
Yes. Lal Kitab reads planets by house, and the houses depend on the lagna, which changes about every two hours. Without the time the houses cannot be placed.
Should I start the remedies shown?
They are the remedies Lal Kitab books commonly give for a planet in its debilitated house. Lal Kitab asks for one remedy at a time, for 40 or 43 days, and only for a planet that troubles the chart, so it is worth having the chart read first.
