Cups tarot cards and their meanings

Cups are the suit of water. They speak about feelings, love, friendship, family and intuition, the part of life that cannot be measured but decides a great deal. In a reading they come up around a new relationship, a marriage question, a strained family tie, or the quiet sense that something is right or not.

The numbered cards trace a feeling as it grows and changes. The Ace is a new feeling or bond, the Two a meeting of two people, the Three a celebration with friends. The Four to Seven turn inward: boredom, grief, nostalgia and daydreams. The Eight walks away from what no longer satisfies, the Nine is contentment and the Ten a happy home. Among the court cards, the Page brings a tender message, the Knight is the romantic who arrives with an offer, the Queen is caring and intuitive, and the King keeps his feelings steady for the sake of others.

When several of these cards come up

Many Cups in a spread mean the heart of the question is a feeling, even when the question was about something practical. Look at what the cards say you want, what you may be avoiding and what would help you feel settled. Cups describe your side of a relationship well; they cannot tell you for certain what another person thinks, so treat them as a prompt for an honest conversation. Reversed Cups commonly show feelings that are blocked, confused or pushed aside, and the useful question then is what has not yet been said.
