Lucky colour of the day
Today is Tuesday (Mars). Colour of the day: Red. Number of the day: 9.
Tomorrow, Wednesday: Green (Mercury).
Each weekday is ruled by a planet, and each planet has its own colour and number. Here is today’s colour, tomorrow’s, and the whole week.
Colour of the day for every weekday
The same table every week. Today’s row is marked.
| Weekday | Ruling planet | Colour | Number |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday रविवार | Sun | Gold, orange | 1 |
| Monday सोमवार | Moon | White, cream | 2 |
| Tuesday मंगलवार | Mars | Red | 9 |
| Wednesday बुधवार | Mercury | Green | 5 |
| Thursday गुरुवार | Jupiter | Yellow | 3 |
| Friday शुक्रवार | Venus | White, light pink | 6 |
| Saturday शनिवार | Saturn | Dark blue, black | 8 |
How the colour of the day is worked out
The seven weekdays are named after seven planets: Ravivar after Ravi (the Sun), Somvar after Soma (the Moon), Mangalvar after Mangal (Mars), Budhvar after Budh (Mercury), Guruvar after Guru (Jupiter), Shukravar after Shukra (Venus) and Shanivar after Shani (Saturn). The planet that gives the day its name is called its ruler.
The colour of the day is the colour of that planet, and the number of the day is the planet’s number in numerology (Sun 1, Moon 2, Jupiter 3, Mercury 5, Venus 6, Saturn 8, Mars 9). They come from the same planet table that the numerology calculators on this site use, so the two always agree. Rahu (4) and Ketu (7) rule no weekday, so their colours are not in the week table.
The page changes at midnight, Indian time. In the panchang a vaar runs from one sunrise to the next, so in the hours before sunrise some families still follow the previous day’s colour.
How people use it
- Many people wear something in the colour of the day, or keep it close: a shirt, a dupatta, a handkerchief, a pen.
- Some choose the day itself for a start that suits its planet, for example Thursday (Jupiter) for study and Wednesday (Mercury) for trade and paperwork.
- Treat it as a gentle daily reminder of the day’s planet, not as a rule. No colour has to be avoided because of the weekday.
Your own colour: by your Mulank
The colour of the day is the same for everyone. Your personal colour comes from your Mulank (Moolank), the single digit of your day of birth, and stays the same all your life. Find your Mulank in the table and open its page.
| Mulank | Planet | Colour | Day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mulank 1 | Sun | Gold, orange | Sunday |
| Mulank 2 | Moon | White, cream | Monday |
| Mulank 3 | Jupiter | Yellow | Thursday |
| Mulank 4 | Rahu | Blue, grey | Saturday |
| Mulank 5 | Mercury | Green | Wednesday |
| Mulank 6 | Venus | White, light pink | Friday |
| Mulank 7 | Ketu | Light green, white | Monday |
| Mulank 8 | Saturn | Dark blue, black | Saturday |
| Mulank 9 | Mars | Red | Tuesday |

Navratri has its own nine colours
During Navratri many people follow a different list, the nine Navratri colours, set each year by the weekday on which Navratri begins. It is a separate, modern custom. See Navratri colours for this year.

Questions about the colour of the day
What is the lucky colour for today?
It depends on the weekday: Sunday gold, orange (Sun); Monday white, cream (Moon); Tuesday red (Mars); Wednesday green (Mercury); Thursday yellow (Jupiter); Friday white, light pink (Venus); Saturday dark blue, black (Saturn). The box at the top of this page shows today’s colour in Indian time.
Which colour should I wear today?
If you follow the weekday tradition, wear the colour of today’s ruling planet, shown at the top of this page. If you follow your numbers, wear the colour of your Mulank instead; the table on this page lists it for 1 to 9.
Is the colour of the day the same as my lucky colour?
No. The colour of the day changes every day and is the same for everyone. Your lucky colour comes from your date of birth (your Mulank) and stays with you. The lucky colour by date of birth guide explains it.
Why are the Navratri colours different from these?
The nine Navratri colours are a separate list that started in Maharashtra and is set by the weekday on which Navratri begins. Its weekday colours are not the planet colours. See the Navratri colours page.
Can a colour make my day go well?
No colour can promise an outcome. The colour of the day is a traditional reminder of the day’s planet, worn by choice. It is not a substitute for effort, care or good advice.
