Shadi kab hogi? Astrology cannot give you a date. What it can do is show the factors astrologers traditionally read for marriage: the 7th house and its lord, Venus and Jupiter, the running Vimshottari dasha, Jupiter’s transit and the Manglik check. Together they point to periods that are commonly read as supportive. This guide explains each factor in plain words, what tradition links with a late marriage, and which calculators let you see these factors in your own chart.
In short: astrologers read the 7th house, its lord, Venus and Jupiter to see what the chart supports for marriage, and the dasha periods and Jupiter’s transit to see when. No chart can give a date or a yes or no. Late marriage placements, such as Saturn on the 7th house, are read as patience, not denial.
For reflection, not a forecast. Everything below describes traditional indicators. A chart shows what it supports and where it asks for care. The decisions, and the timing in real life, stay with you and your family.
What astrologers look at for marriage
A marriage reading starts from the birth chart (Kundli). You need your date, time and place of birth, because the time sets the lagna, and the lagna sets which house is the 7th.
| Factor | What is checked | Why it is read |
|---|---|---|
| 7th house | The sign opposite the lagna and the planets in it | Traditionally the house of marriage and partnership |
| 7th lord | The planet that rules that sign, its house and its strength | Shows how the matter of marriage is carried in the chart |
| Venus | Its sign, house and strength | Commonly read as the significator (karaka) of marriage |
| Jupiter | Its place, and whether it sits in or aspects the 7th | Traditionally read as a protective influence on marriage |
| Dasha | The running mahadasha and antardasha | Points to when a matter is active in life |
| Jupiter’s transit | Whether Jupiter moves through or aspects your 7th house | Commonly read as support during a period |
| Manglik | Mars from the lagna, Moon and Venus | Read for both partners when matching |
The 7th house and its lord
The 7th house is the sign opposite your lagna (the rising sign at the moment of birth). Astrologers note three things about it: who rules it, which planets sit in it, and which planets look at it. Every planet aspects the 7th house from itself. Mars also looks at the 4th and 8th houses from itself, Jupiter at the 5th and 9th, and Saturn at the 3rd and 10th.
The 7th lord matters as much as the house. When it sits in a house traditionally read as supportive, such as the 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th or 10th, or is strong in its own or exalted sign, the chart is commonly read as supporting the partnership. When it sits in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, tradition links that with effort or delay.
Venus and Jupiter
Venus is commonly read as the significator of marriage, so its strength is checked: its own sign, its exalted sign, or the sign where it is debilitated. Jupiter is the other planet traditionally linked with marriage. When Jupiter sits in the 7th house or aspects it, astrologers usually read that as a protective influence.
The navamsa (D9) chart
Many astrologers read the navamsa chart next to the Kundli for marriage. It divides each sign into nine parts, and it is traditionally used to see how the promise of the birth chart holds up in partnership. It is very sensitive to the time of birth.
When: dasha periods and Jupiter’s transit
The question “shadi kab hogi” is really a question about timing, and timing is read from the Vimshottari dasha. Your life is divided into mahadashas (main periods) of the nine planets, and each is divided into antardashas (sub-periods).
The way our marriage prediction calculator lists periods follows a common approach:
- Find the marriage lords. These are the 7th lord, the 2nd lord (the house of family), Venus, Jupiter and any planet sitting in the 7th house.
- Check each antardasha between ages 18 and 45. A sub-period scores its first point when its lord is a marriage lord.
- Add a point when the mahadasha lord is also a marriage lord.
- Add another point when Jupiter transits in or aspects your 7th house for at least 60 days of that sub-period.
Only sub-periods with at least two points are listed: three points are shown as strong and two as supportive. These are the periods astrologers look at first. They are not the only periods in which a marriage can happen, and a strong period is not a promise.
Shadi mein deri: what tradition links with late marriage
People often search for “late marriage astrology” when a marriage is taking longer than the family expected. Tradition links some placements with a slower or later start. Read them as tradition, not as a verdict on your life.
| Placement | What tradition commonly links it with |
|---|---|
| Saturn in or aspecting the 7th house | A more deliberate or later marriage, often with a serious partner |
| 7th lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th house | Effort or delay in the partnership |
| Venus debilitated, or in the 6th, 8th or 12th house | Care and patience in matters of the heart |
| Mars, Rahu, Ketu or the Sun in the 7th house | Some friction or a slow start, depending on the rest of the chart |
| A Manglik chart | Both charts read together before a match |
A few points to keep in mind:
- One placement is never the whole story. A chart with Saturn on the 7th can also have Jupiter aspecting it, a strong 7th lord or a supportive dasha ahead.
- Saturn is linked with patience, not denial. In tradition, a later marriage under Saturn is often described as a steady one.
- Manglik is often cancelled. Common cancellations include Mars in its own or exalted sign and Jupiter aspecting Mars. Check yours with the Manglik dosha calculator.
- Remedies are a matter for a full reading. Practices commonly suggested in tradition depend on the whole chart, so they are best discussed with an astrologer who has seen it.
How to check your own chart
- Start with the marriage prediction calculator. It lists the 7th house indicators and the supportive dasha periods for your birth details.
- Run the Manglik dosha calculator to see whether the common rule applies and whether a cancellation is present.
- Look at your dasha periods to see which mahadasha and antardasha you are in now.
- For a match, use Kundli matching by date of birth, which scores the guna milan for both partners.
- Read the navamsa chart with your Kundli if your birth time is reliable.
What a chart cannot tell you
A chart cannot say whether you will marry, when exactly, or whom. It does not see your choices, your family’s plans or the people you will meet. What it offers is a way to think about timing calmly, and to know which periods astrologers traditionally watch. If a reading ever frightens you or asks you to decide out of fear, step back.

Questions about marriage timing
Can astrology tell me the exact date of my marriage?
No. A chart can show the periods that astrologers traditionally look at first for marriage, but no chart can promise a date. Marriages also depend on choices, families and everyday timing that a chart does not show.
Which house in the Kundli is linked with marriage?
The 7th house, the sign opposite the lagna. Astrologers read it with its lord, the planets in it and the planets that aspect it, and with Venus and Jupiter, the planets traditionally linked with marriage. The marriage prediction calculator lists all of these for your chart.
Does a Manglik chart mean a late marriage?
Not by itself. Being Manglik is one factor that astrologers read, and many charts carry a common cancellation. For marriage, both charts are traditionally read together. Check yours with the Manglik dosha calculator.
What if the strong periods for marriage have already passed?
A period that has passed is not a missed chance. It is only one of the periods the traditional rules pick out, and marriages also happen outside them. A full chart reading looks at what comes next.
Do I need my exact time of birth?
Yes, as close as you can. The lagna, and with it the 7th house, can change within a couple of hours, so the time decides which house is read as the 7th. A birth certificate or hospital record is the best source.
