Vastu pyramid: what it is and how it is commonly used

A Vastu pyramid is a small pyramid of copper, brass, crystal, wood or plastic that some consultants place in a home or office as a remedy, most often at the centre of a room or along a cut or missing corner. Pyramid remedies are a modern practice: they are not described in the classical Vastu texts, and there is no scientific evidence that they work.

Many people use pyramids and find them reassuring, and this guide does not ask you to stop. It explains what a Vastu pyramid is, where the idea comes from, how pyramids are commonly placed, and why the layout of a home matters more than any object you add to it.

Where the idea comes from

The classical Vastu texts deal with directions, the five elements, the plot and the plan of a building. Pyramids are not among their remedies. The idea of "pyramid power" became popular in the 1970s through books that claimed a pyramid shape gathers energy; tests have not supported those claims. Vastu consultants later began to combine pyramids with Vastu, mostly as a way to treat a defect without breaking walls.

That history is worth knowing. A pyramid is a modern practice that many people now follow, but it is not ancient Vastu and it has no classical or scientific basis.

How pyramids are commonly used

UseHow it is commonly done
At the centre of a roomA single small pyramid on a table or shelf near the middle of the room
For a cut or missing cornerA strip or row of small pyramids along the line where the corner is missing
During constructionA pyramid plate placed under the floor or at the foundation by some builders
On a work deskA small crystal or brass pyramid on the desk
Under the bedA pyramid sheet, used by some people, though many consultants leave the bed area alone

Materials

Copper and brass pyramids are the most common, followed by crystal, wood and plastic grids of many small pyramids. Consultants who use pyramids differ on which material suits which zone, and there is no single rule that all of them follow.

What a pyramid cannot do

A pyramid does not move a kitchen, a toilet or a main door, and it is not a promise of health, money or success. If a home has a major Vastu defect, most consultants look first at how rooms are used and arranged, at light, clutter and colours, and only then at objects such as pyramids. Be careful with anyone who says that an expensive pyramid set is the only answer.

Do

  • Start with the layout, light and clutter before adding any object.
  • Treat a pyramid as an optional, modern practice.
  • Keep any pyramid clean and in a tidy spot.
  • Ask a consultant what the pyramid is meant to address.
  • Read about the cut or missing corner in your home before buying anything.

Avoid

  • Do not expect a pyramid to replace the main Vastu changes.
  • Do not believe anyone who promises results from a pyramid.
  • Do not feel pressured to buy a large or costly pyramid set.
  • Do not place pyramids under the bed without advice.
  • Do not mix several remedies for the same corner without guidance.

Adjustments without rebuilding

  • Many consultants suggest clearing clutter and improving light in a cut corner before any pyramid.
  • Where pyramids are used, a single small pyramid in the centre of a room is the commonly suggested start.
  • A strip of small pyramids along a missing corner is used by some consultants as a modern practice.

These are traditional practices that many families follow. They vary between Vastu schools; for your own home, a consultant can say which matter most.

Questions

What is a Vastu pyramid?

A small pyramid of copper, brass, crystal, wood or plastic that some consultants place in a home or office as a remedy, often at the centre of a room or along a missing corner.

Is the pyramid part of ancient Vastu?

No. The classical Vastu texts do not describe pyramid remedies. Pyramids were combined with Vastu in modern times, so they are a recent practice rather than an ancient one.

Do Vastu pyramids really work?

There is no scientific evidence that they do. Many people use them and find them reassuring, but they are a modern practice with no classical or scientific basis, and no one can promise results.

Where is a Vastu pyramid kept?

Most often at the centre of a room or along the line of a cut or missing corner. Consultants who use pyramids differ on the details.

Can a pyramid fix a toilet in the north-east?

No object moves a toilet. Most consultants suggest keeping such a toilet very clean, dry and well lit with the door closed, and look at the whole layout first.
