What does retrograde (vakri) mean?
Seen from the Earth, a planet appears to move backwards through the zodiac for a while, as the Earth overtakes it or it overtakes the Earth. It stops (a station), moves back, stops again and moves forward.
Are Rahu and Ketu retrograde?
Always. Their mean motion is backwards through the zodiac, so they are not listed here.
Is a retrograde planet bad?
Not in itself. In Jyotish a retrograde planet is often considered strong; its themes turn inward and older matters return. How it works for you depends on its place in your chart.
Do Indian and Western dates for retrograde differ?
No. A station happens at one moment for both systems; only the sign named can differ, because Indian astrology uses the sidereal zodiac.
