How the Kannada calendar works

Months take the names Chaitra to Phalguna from the sign the Sun is in at the new moon that starts them, with an adhik month added when needed. Each day is named by the tithi at sunrise.

Ugadi (Yugadi) is Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, in March or April.
